‘Fat Cat’s - a victim of Phoenix AZ foreclosure
October 9, 2008
There are the Wall Street ‘fat cats‘ who have made millions and millions of dollars as the Phoenix real estate market has spiraled downward with losses more than 30% in Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe.
Maricopa County which includes Phoenix, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills is overrun with short sales and foreclosures.
One of the unspoken victims of the abandoned and foreclosed homes are cats, dogs, and other house pets.
Yesterday,
I took a client to preview a Peoria AZ short sale that was now a foreclosed home (REO). Upon, entering the home I was approached by a beautiful (and frightened) cat who had clearly been abandoned by the owners and locked in the house for several days.
Although, the owner had left food and water, the resources were depleted. I have reported the animal abuse crime to the local authorities.
I have since taken the cat, which I have yet to name. Though, considering ‘Frank’ in honor of Frank Sinatra ‘old blue eyes’ as the cat has beautiful blue eyes. I was planning on keeping him. However, my Jack Russel Terrier does not seem to like Frank. Though, I am thinking it is the other way around.
In any case, Phoenix short sales and Scottsdale lender owned properties are empty and pets are being abandoned. If you come across animals that need a place to live, there is a no-kill shelter called Arizona Animal Welfare 602.273.6852 that will take-in cats and dogs. The Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA is the state’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter.
I also encourage you to consider adopting a cat or dogs for $100. They want you and your family to have the perfect match for life is required to come down to the shelter and speak with an adoption counselor to begin the matchmaking process.
You can also become a foster parent for cats and dogs and help save animal lives.
Become an AAWL / SPCA foster parent! Helping care for our animals in your home has a huge impact on their physical and emotional well-being and we are always in need of people who want to open their homes and their hearts to our animals.
Thanks for helping the ‘Fat cats’ get fatter and making their lives richer.

Got something to say?

[…] you want for the foreclosure/credit/stock market mess but it’s certainly not the cat’s fault. James posted about it here, and that post includes links and info to Arizona Animal Welfare — a “no kill” animal […]
I just wanted to mention that you can also contact http://www.lostourhome.org we are also more than willing to help!
I handle a few foreclosures and am always on the lookout for abandoned pets. Cats are often frightened about the situation and stay hidden rather than announce themselves. I already have 3 adopted cats but our local animal control officer has been able to place the rest in good homes.
Good for you for calling attention to this story!
